Buddiqo Foundation Inc. (operating as Buddiqo) is a legally registered nonprofit organization in Canada. Your privacy and trust are our top priorities. We are committed to providing a safe, anonymous, and secure space for peer support. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using Buddiqo, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the platform.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Information: Basic details such as your email and preferences, needed to create and manage your account.
  • Anonymous Matching Data: Used only to pair you with peers. This information is never shared with other users.
  • Chat Messages: Private and encrypted in transit. Automated or limited human moderation may review content to ensure safety. We do not sell, trade, or profile users based on chat content.
  • Criminal Confessions or Threats: If a user admits to committing or planning a serious crime, or makes threats of harm to themselves or others, Buddiqo may be legally obligated to report such information to authorities. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Child exploitation or abuse
    • Violent or planned criminal acts
    • Imminent threats to life or safety
    • Terrorism or related activity
While Buddiqo strives to maintain anonymity, absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect public safety.
  • Usage Data: General technical details (device type, browser, and usage patterns) to maintain and improve our platform.
  • Device Preferences: Settings stored locally on your device (e.g., dark mode, onboarding progress). This data does not leave your device.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve Buddiqo’s features.
  • To match you with peers anonymously and securely.
  • To enhance platform safety and prevent misuse.
  • To respond to inquiries or provide optional support.

3. Data Protection & Security

We use encryption, secure authentication, and industry best practices to protect your information. However, no online service can guarantee complete security. By using Buddiqo, you acknowledge that transmitting data online carries inherent risks beyond our control.

4. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request access to or a copy of your personal data.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Update your account information or preferences.

If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA. We will make reasonable efforts to honor these rights in accordance with applicable law.

5. Third-Party Services

We may use trusted third-party providers (e.g., hosting, analytics, and cloud services) to operate Buddiqo. These partners are contractually required to handle data securely and comply with privacy standards. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties outside our control.

6. Criminal Confessions, Threats, or Emergency Disclosures

Buddiqo is a peer-support platform, not a crisis hotline or law enforcement agency. However, if moderators or automated systems detect content suggesting imminent risk of harm or admission of serious illegal acts, we may:

  • Take immediate safety actions (e.g., suspend access or escalate the case for review).
  • Disclose relevant information to law enforcement or emergency services where legally required.

These disclosures are limited to what is necessary to address the situation and do not include unrelated personal data.

7. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

Buddiqo is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. While we strive to protect your privacy, we cannot guarantee complete anonymity, security, or freedom from unauthorized access. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Buddiqo disclaims liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the platform.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted here with the revised date, and continued use of Buddiqo means you accept the updated Policy.
